The Atlas Foundation has had some significant updates since the last report in July.
We have welcomed a new CEO, Boris Pomroy, who has been with Atlas for a couple of months. Boris is a keen rugby fan and is very experienced in the charity sector. We are delighted to have him onboard and are excited for what the future holds for Atlas.
Our first Atlas DigiBus has been launched in Langa, Cape Town. The Atlas DigiBus is a mobile IT classroom, equipped with laptops, Wi-Fi and big screens. The Atlas DigiBus will visit one thousand children across five schools every week, giving them the chance to learn essential digital literacy skills. A locally employed teacher will also be on the bus delivering an approved curriculum of STEM, coding and IT. Atlas reached the final of the Ekurhuleni Women in Sports Awards in the ‘Sponsor of the Year’ category. We were nominated by the Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute, a project we support near Johannesburg. GWRI lifts young girls out of poverty and gives them the opportunity to play rugby and learn valuable skills for their future. We’re grateful to have been nominated and to have reached the final from over 200 nominees!
We are pleased to say that a number of the programmes we support are back up and running, after nearly two years of restrictions. This includes SKRUM in Eswatini, a programme that uses rugby as a facilitator to teach children about the dangers of HIV and, more recently, Covid-19. In Cambodia, Kampuchea Balopp have started resuming their in-person sessions, which includes fitness classes, dance and traditional Khmer games with another local organisation, Khmer Seila Handicap.
Atlas has got a very exciting campaign coming up over the Christmas period, so please do follow us on social media to keep up to date.
Thank you for your continued support.
