November Update 2022

After a motivating start to the year, our collaboration with local partners all over the world continues to instil the core values of rugby to empower children. Your support remains vital to allowing Atlas to develop relationships with our partners and create a long-term impact for some of the world’s most disadvantaged children.

Atlas champion and lead for Atlas Ireland, Shane Bryne, hosted another of The Atlas Foundation's annual Golf days in Ireland at the Druids Glen Golf Result this september. Much like it's Surrey counterpart, the golf day was a wonderful success with nice weather throughout the day for all our golfers. Shane was joined by many other former internationals, including Tommy Bowe and Rob Kearney, who both described the day as a great enjoyment and rewarding to see the event grow bigger and bigger each year.

Although Atlas Ireland may not run as many events as the mainland or South African sections, when it does, it does it well. The golf day was another sold out event and Atlas Ireland is increasing its capacity each year. The money raised goes towards supporting the Atlas projects, including those in Ireland which focus on social inclusion for those with physical and mental disabilties, illnesses, and those recovering from trauma.

July 2022 Update

June was a greatly productive month for many of our local partners. The young boys of the Masiphumelele and Ocean View communities near Cape Town displayed rugby’s fundamental values of teamwork, discipline, and respect as they came together to form a team in South Africa’s Schools League. Though the communities differ culturally, they worked as a team both on and off the pitch and Atlas is now looking to help establish a girls team as well.

Our partners all around the globe use rugby to engage and inspire children, with the game being a catalyst for health, education, and inclusion. In India, we’ve been working with our partners Khelo Rugby to create a digital education pilot programme. Students have been provided with digital tablets, pre-loaded with content for use in the classroom. The syllabus is designed to teach the children English and is a combination of self-based learning and classroom-based learning. The classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and Wi-Fi so the children can learn independently and within a group. Whilst this programme remains in the pilot stage, we're optimistic about rolling this out to more children in the community, giving them the opportunity to advance their education and learn in a different way. On the rugby field, Khelo have continued to grow their success and over 100 children in Bangalore enjoyed a visit from former All Black Norman Maxwell. The children developed their teamwork and leadership skills and continue to love playing the game.

We are also excited to announce the arrival of two new interns, Ella Gibbs and Alex Scola. Both are motivated by their love of rugby and truly believe in the power of sport for good. We’re delighted to have them onboard our team.
