Summary

ASUVI is supporting Indigenous women in three rural communities in Quiche, Guatemala, to strengthen food security, increase income, and build climate resilience. Through training in agroecological farming, poultry raising, food processing, and savings management, women will grow nutritious food, earn more from local markets, and strengthen their leadership in their households and communities.

Challenge

Indigenous women in rural Quiche, Guatemala face deep poverty, limited access to income-generating opportunities, and the growing impacts of climate change. Gender inequality, low access to productive resources, and weak market opportunities make it harder for women to feed their families, earn income, and build secure futures. These challenges also affect food security, health, and resilience across entire communities.

Solution

ASUVI will equip Indigenous women in three communities with training, tools, and technical support to strengthen sustainable livelihoods. Women will learn agroecological farming, poultry raising, post-harvest handling, food processing, and savings management. The project also promotes soil conservation and water-saving practices so families can improve food production, earn more income, and better withstand climate-related challenges.

Long-Term Impact

In the long term, this project will help Indigenous women build lasting economic independence, stronger leadership, and greater resilience to climate change. Families will have more reliable access to nutritious food and income, while women gain skills, confidence, and decision-making power in their homes and communities. Over time, this can contribute to stronger local economies, improved well-being, and more sustainable rural development.
