The year of 2022 began with the highest rates of coronavirus infection since the beginning of the pandemic in Brazil, due to the fast spread of the omicron variant. Fortunately, because of the vaccines, the number of lethal cases were not as high as in the previous months and the amount of new infections are now decreasing quickly. We have just reached the mark of 75% of the population with the complete vaccination protocol, with two doses. Apparently the scenario is positive, however we should not feel completely safe yet, since some countries in Asia and Europe are facing a wave of a new variant. We must keep alert and taking care.
The pandemic has affected not only the life of the population in general, but also the dinamic of the organizations, and these changes generate a harder impact on the non-profit entities, which is our case. Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce is facing a severe financial crisis, specially because of the increasing prices in the market, in particular for the medical supplies. This is why now, more than ever, we need the support from society to keep working and helping the ones who need the most.
During 2021 we could reach almost 34.000 people living in the streets and under food insecurity, with arount 71.000 donations, including 25.760 ready meals and other itens, like water, juice, snacks, clothes, masks and hygiene kits. So far in 2022, we were able to donate more than 7.600 items, helping around 5.800 people.
All of these numbers are only possible because of the contribution of people like you. Together we can do more. In the words of our founder, Santa Dulce dos Pobres, “When everyone does a little bit, the little of many adds up”.
Thank you for your kind support!
