Summer is going to its end. So, it is a high time to tell you how it was to spend summer in terms of the project CHILDREN_ATO.

Spring ended on an optimistic note for us. Children visited the headquarters of 1+1 MEDIA in terms of the project. The main TV host Solomiia arranged an excursion for the children to the backstage of their favorite TV shows. Also, she told kids about the secrets which were very important for every TV host. Children were invited to the studio of SNIDANOK Z 1+1 (morning show BREAKFAST WITH 1+1), TSN (NEWS). Also, kids saw where their favorite shows were edited. TV host of the show SNIDANOK Z 1+1 (morning show BREAKFAST WITH 1+1) Ruslan and news presenter Yehor gladly met with the children, told them how it was to be a host and signed their autographs. Also, the soldiers of ATO from the social project THE HEROES met with children to inspire them to be brave and courageous. Children were given books after the excursion.

It is worthwhile noting that summer has been no less interesting for the children this year.

Children have had an opportunity to visit 2 summer camps abroad this summer, namely tent camp TARASIVKA (near London, UK) and summer camp SUNBEAMS (Aalborg, Denmark). Also, children were invited to the health center BARVINOK, Ternopil region. Details follow.

Thanks to Ukrainian diaspora in the UK, namely members of the UKRAINIAN YOUTH ASSOSIATION, Khrystyna and Andrii were invited to the tent summer camp TARASIVKA (near London, UK).Children were on their vacation beginning with 23^rd July till 8^th August, 2016 (including the days of departing and landing).

18 children from Ukraine aged 12-15 have been invited to the camp this summer. They had a typical camp scheduled: morning exercises, morning prayer, breakfast, activities, dinner, games, supper, evening prayer and bedtime. So, that is how their ordinary day has looked like. As for activities, they were different, including singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, learning English, Ukrainian history and current situation in Ukraine. Also, a lot of sports events took place e.g. netball, football etc.

There were unordinary camp days in addition to ordinary ones. It was the days of excursions and field trips. The last day at TARASIVKA has ended with a big concert for parents and all presented.

Children lived in tents at the camp. Sleeping bags, pillows, towels etc. were bought for them. Also, every child received 20 pounds for pocket expenses.

Children leaved tent camp TARASIVKA 8^th August, 2016, in the morning. They visited London where they had a few excursions before their departure.

Thanks to Ukrainian diaspora in Denmark, namely Ukrainian Youth Organization LASTIVKA, Ukrainian non-governmental organization DOPOMOHA DITIAM HEROIV (Help Children of Heroes), Lviv, and the team of active volunteers from Ukraine and Denmark children had an opportunity to have rest at the camp SUNBEAMS. 60 children from Ukraine, aged from 9 to 14, were invited to the summer camp. The camp was held for the second time. 3 children from the project Alisa, Sasha and Pavlo had a wonderful opportunity to rest in a one of Danish towns.

The camp SUNBEAMS was held from 30^th July till 13^th August, 2016. 8 Ukrainian volunteers went with the children to provide their safety abroad.

The group from Ukraine was rearranged into 3 main age groups. In such a way, the first group was in Copenhagen, the second in Aalborg and the third in Ikast. Children were at their camps during the whole day but stayed at the families of Danish Ukrainians for night.

Every group had its own activities and sightseeing plan.

As for the children in Sumy this summer for them has been no less active. Children had an opportunity to visit a workshop almost every weekend. Kids tried to cook chocolate cupcakes, burgers, pizzas. Also, there were a free of charge horse raiding courses for the children from the project.

Help Children from Ukrainian East #3

Dear donors,

this spring began truely fantastic. A lot of work has been done. The team of charitable organization Sagacitas-Ukraine want to present to your attention what has been done in March and April, 2016. We decided to make special "May" report a little bit later:

Sorry for the delay responding, I've been very busy with work. Here goes: I have been very interested in Ukraine since a short visit to Kyiv four years ago. Since then I have been back many times visiting different areas and have been amazed by the beauty of Ukraine, and the great people I have met on my travels. Since then I been following the developments around the Russian aggression in Donbass and have been shocked by my governments unwillingness to support Ukraine. I can't imagine what life must be like for the kids in the ATO zone, so was glad to be able to help a little bit through the Children_Ato charity. It is a very worthwhile cause.

So, information about March and April follows.

March has been quite informative and interesting. Details follow…

Earlier this month a surprise has arrived from Germany to family Klypa, participants of the project Children_ATO. Partners of the project public organization Chemnitz-Ukraine-Europa e.V. collected and sent to the family a parcel. Unfortunately, little Max could not get itat once, as was under the course of chemotherapy in Kiev. We hope that all received things will suit to litte Max and will be useful for him.

Auction "Fair of Kindness" continues its activities. 4 beautiful authentic Ukrainian dolls (motankas) have been sent to Canada, province Saskatchewan. Thanks Dr. Ursula for a great support - $200. Remind you, that it was not the first dolls, sent to Dr. Ursula. Two more were sent to Canada to support Nastia and little Bohdan. We hope that new authentic Ukrainian dolls (motankas) will be great addition to, perhaps, even future collection.

Under the project Children_ATO and ToyDrive for Ukrainian Kids, the family of the fallen ATO soldier got two parcels from abroad. Two volunteers agreed to help a certain family. Mother, Kseniia, and her son Bohdan are very grateful for the received care. The volunteers of this family were representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in the US, Ksenia and Svitlana. So, the family has received a lot of interesting things. Knowing that Bogdan has a problem with English, lady Svitlana gladly offered to organize the online course of learning English for the boy. Families of project Children_ATO not only get a lump-sum help, but can continue to communicate with their volunteers.

On March 5, 20 children of Children ATO project participated in an entertaining and informative workshop called A Little Soap-Boiler. In the entertainment complex called "Khalabuda" kids learned how to create a natural, useful, and what is most important - a beautiful soap. Small soap-boilers not only learned useful things and created small soap masterpieces for their mothers for March 8, but also managed to learn a few games, and communicate with each other. The heroine of a favorite cartoon "Frozen" helped them. Volunteers and organizers of the project plan to carry out educational and fun activities for the kids every week. This will not only help kids make friends but also expand the range of their interests.

Children were waiting for real "MasterChef" on March 6. Pizzeria “Celentano” invited the children of the project Children_ATO for a pizza workshop for the second time. Children were told all secrets of tasty pizza, they were taught to make dough and have shown how correctly and creatively to spread a filling. Then aspiring pizza makers were got into the kitchen and have told how to make dough.

With a little delay, we would like to congratulate sincerely our brave mothers with a wonderful holiday of March 8th and to present them joyful emotions and cheery mood. Sasha, participant of / Children ATO, has celebrated her 11th birthday March 29th. Unfortunately, we had no opportunity to congratulate birthday-girl ourselves but...Thanks to fruitful cooperation with our coordinator Oksana the present has reached its destination in time. Girl is in fond of her present (DIY set). In our turn we want to say thank you to RocMaidan for such a nice present. The big charitable event was held by charitable fund “Sagacitas-Ukraine” and German organization AG Ukraine-Chemnitz-Europa e.V. The talented children from our project “Children ATO” have actively created Easter bunnies. All members of families also sewed animal toys. Our youngest helper is 5 years old. The first batch is ready to be driven to Germany. In such way IDPs help 9-year old Oleg who is from Sumy. He has blood cancer. Now the boy has complication and he is in the “Ohmadit” hospital. The parents need money for his treatment. In Germany the Ukrainian diaspora has got to know about this child and offered a common event which is sewing bunnies for Easter fair. All bunnies will be sold in Germans during the celebrations of catholic Easter. All the proceeds will be spent on the boy’s treatment.

What about April?

At the beginning of this month a small boy Maxim and his dad came to us. Of course, we didn’t lost chance to make him a pleasure and presented him with a soft dog. As his father has said, now the big dog will protect the house not only outside, but also inside. Also, thanks to Svetlana, Maxim has got a few new things that he carefully made (choose) and which he liked with the first sight. Maxim does not like to be photographed, so the photos had to be done very quickly.

The project Children_ATO made friends with the initiative of representatives of Ukrainian diaspora in the United Kingdom. Mrs. Iryna offered to collect a care packagefor 2 families, participants of the project. They were pleasantly surprised by all received stuff. Little Arina received many educational games, clothes and some food items.
"Good evening, Irina. I wrote to you an email on mailbox that you left on the children's book in the gifts ... thanks again. I've got your gifts, thank you very much for everything. Irina, we wish you a good health, happiness and joy. Thanks again for your attention, support and a good heart ", Anna and Arina. Also, Khrystyna received a package from Mrs. Irina. Unfortunately, the girl is unable to thank by herself, but she and her grandmother were impressed by the scale of the support and could not contain their joy and gratitude, communicating by the phone with one of the project coordinators. Grandmother Svitlana Anatoliivna once told that in Khrystyna`s wardrobe new favorite dress has already appeared. Also, there were other pleasant surprises, but it would remain a secret.

Thanks to Svetlana and Anna project coordinators could collect such a package for one of the families from the project Children_ATO. Also, Ukraine-Chemnitz-Europa project partners prepared surprises for children of the project for Easter. Maria is one of the first who received as a present for Holiday fantastic bag from project partners.

The middle of April surprised us with a wonderful weather. That is why children from the project Children_ATO were invited to ride on horses. Kids got positive energy on a long time. We remind you that hippotherapy is a very effective practice of sedation and psychological "unloading" for children. It is practiced by the project of helping children more than a year.

On April 12th with the support of the charitable organization "Sagasitas-Ukraine" Open Competition in Radio-Orienting was held. The competition was held in the Kozhedub Central park. 38 participants were fighting for prizes.

Kids have learnt about one of the most major characteristic of the important Christian holiday Easter - Easter Egg (Pysanka), its origin, types, symbolism, technique and role in spring rites by watching e-presentation. Presentation 'Easter Surprises' was prepared and shown by workers of aesthetic education department of Ostrovsky Sumy Region Children library. On specially prepared wooden eggs children created beautiful things using decoupage technique. They decorated their small Faberge Eggs with small stones, crystals, sequins. For each pysanka we created small nests in which children took their artwork to home. Although the workshop was aimed only for children, mothers and grandmothers also joined to the creative process. At the end of workshop both volunteers and mothers of the project Children_ATO agreed that there was a need to hold something creative and memorable for adults.
Special gratitude is for the German organization AG Ukraine-Chemnitz-Europa e.V. for the stationary for the workshops and for special surprises. Each child who has tried the hand at our workshop received a present. We have handed to everyone German chocolate Easter calendar and the girls have received fashionable handbags to the May holidays.

We want to express thankful words to all who have supported and still support our project, aimed to help children who have suffered from the military actions in the East of Ukraine.

Old men can make war, but it is children who will make history.

December, 2015

The end of the year was quite productive

Right at the beginning the help from our partners from the city of Chemnits arrived to us. Participants of
the project Children _ATO were able to get material assistance (clothes and toys). Families were invited to the office of the fund. So, everyone could pick up things according to needed size and taste.

December 1^st, in a hall of Sumy State University the final of the first charitable league of KVN «Sagacitas» took place. All proceeds from KVN went to purchase presents for kids to New Year holidays. Also, it was announced that the second season of KVN’s league will be held (beginning is planned on March 1^st, 2016).

Final game has given not only bright emotions but, also, 250 New Year presents for children, who take part in the project Children _ATO. In terms of the project, presents have gone to Zaporizhia (20 items), Chernivtsi (45 items), Lutsk (45 items) and Uzhhorod (25 items). Also, presents were sent to Boryspil, Berdiansk, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia and Mukachevo. A real Santa has brought them to children.

Family of the fallen ATO soldier has received a parcel from overseas.Roman and Olia have packed it for them. Mother raises 2 daughters alone. Every girl (from the youngest to the oldest) has found something special. Also, foreign family has written a letter to the family of fallen soldier, in which they wrote, that would continue communication with pleasure.

One more family has received a present for New Year holidays. In terms of the project ToyDrive, two more volunteers were found for the one family. The family has received one parcel from the possible two. Mother was very thankful for the received clothes.

The end of the year became the beginning of the cooperation with a non-profit organization of Ukrainian diaspora in the USA RocMaidan. With its support the collection of toys for children from the project called Children _ATO began. Also, it was received $ 210 for the arraigning of events dedicated to winter holidays. And that’s not all. Representatives of the organization wrote about possibility for further usage of the packages of burn sheets. Packages of burn sheets were sent to Kherson,where in cooperation with local volunteers they were transferred to 36 brigade (marines).

Also, as a result the project has received new and reliable partner RocMaidan.

Information: ROC Maidan affiliate of the Ukrainian Cultural Center is instrumental in providing medical and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Financial support from local donors and organizations has helped us purchase critical items for Ukrainian soldiers, including warm clothing, Celox/Quick clot gauze, C-A-T tourniquets, bandages and other much needed medical supplies that are forwarded to Ukrainian ATO members for distribution throughout Ukraine.The goal is to deliver medical supplies and humanitarian aid items to regions of Ukraine devastated by the ongoing political conflict and war. The life-saving supplies and funds are distributed to Ukrainian service men and women, as well as fulfilling the needs of refugees, orphaned children and families who have lost their loved ones in the Russian –Ukrainian war.

Finally, one of the most favorite holidays for children was on its way. It was St. Nicholas Day. A funny celebration was organized for children from the project Children _ATO. It was a small workshop in cutting paper angels, and delicious treats. Not only children but also their mothers had an opportunity to relax and communicate in a small circle. Kids behaved well, that was why Nicholas came to all of them and brought presents (books and sweet ginger cookies).

With our partners from Chemnitz we met the end of December. They decided to help us to greet kids, so they organized wonderful individual gifts (which include sweets & interesting things) and Advent calendar.

Santa brought these wonderful gifts and presents for each child. He knocked to each family of the project and congratulated them with New Year. The children were looking forward him, and that’s why, they told the poems gladly and tried to pull his white beard. Presents continued to come to other cities even after New Year celebrations, just before Christmas.

December ended for us on an optimistic note, inspiring for new achievements

January, 2016

The beginning of the year was quite productive and successful.From the very beginning of the month one of the family from the project Children _ATO got the parcel from the USA. In the terms of the project Toy Drive, two volunteers overseaspacked and sent the parcel to the family of the fallen soldier. Mother was very thankful for such care. Presents were received by each member of the family. Attentive representatives of Ukrainian diaspora in the USA put food products, clothes for mother and son, educational toys and stationary into the package.

Also, in cooperation Fair of Kindness with EuroMaidan Items Dasha has received the necessary financial assistance to undergo postoperative examinations in Amosov Institute, Kyiv city. Be noted, that Dasha and her mom Lyudmila and older sister Katherine are IDPs in Sumy region. They live in Akhtyrka city now.

A present was waiting for the family of the fallen ATO soldier on Old New Year. The family of representative of the Ukrainian diaspora in the USA Olena gladly volunteered to collect a parcel for the family. Ruslan, son of the fallen soldier, dreams of becoming a fireman, and what was his delight and surprise when he found the real firefighter suit his size in the parcel. As mother Marina told us, Ruslan was wearing this suit the whole day and even till going to bed.

This pleasant unexpectedness and surprises were not over. For children of the project Children _ATO came the long-awaited gifts from RocMaidan. With the help of Volodymyr and Natalie the collecting of toys was held in the hall of the Ukrainian Credit Union and in the Ukrainian House, Rochester. There one could see pictures and read children’s stories, which are small in size, but are big in the content.

Also, children from the project Children _ATO, decided to join the Unity Day celebrations, but in differ way. Competition of children's drawings on the theme "Unity" was held among the children of a project. Each child had a chance to show his/her understanding of the word “unity” in a creative manner. Unfortunately, because of the weather, not all were able to participate in the contest, but those who wanted were a lot. Thanks to cooperation with the coordinators, we have received drawings not only from Sumy.

February, 2015

February 1^st has set a pace to the whole month…

The beginning of the February has set a pace to the whole month. We have received clothes and toys for the children and adults, who take part in the project Children _ATO. All stuff is received from our partner charitable foundation UKRAINIAN SUNRAISE. Clothes and toys are finding their owners little by little. Sasha has already had an opportunity to appreciate clothes. The girl was really enjoyed with all received items (her father is the ATO soldier, who takes part in the military actions in the Ukrainian East).

Children of the Ukrainian heroes have discovered their culinary talents. “Yummy” workshop was organized in the family restaurant in cooperation with the VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT OF BUKOVYNA. Volunteers have supported an idea to organize such a workshop in Chernivtsi. Children had a great time spending. They have discovered culinary talents in them-selves. Pizza making made a positive impact on their mood and made children communicate actively with each other. Every participant of the workshop could show his/her own “masterpiece”, taste it and receive a present from the unindifferent people.

Family of the ATO soldier has received a financial support in terms of the FAIR OF KINDESS, cooperating with the EUROMAIDANITEMS TO BENEFIT UKRAINIAN PEOPLE. Son of the ATO participant Bohdan has a status of disabled child. He is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, movement disorders. Ukrainian traditional doll (Motanka) was sold on the on-line auction to benefit this child. All received funds were transferred to the family for the operation needed.

We have celebrated the Valentine`s Day together with Sumy Region Children Library and students of Sumy State University, Foreign Philology department. Even rainy weather of the day didn’t stand in our way. ID children, who take part in the project Children _ATO, have gathered in the library to celebrate February 14^th together. A real holiday was organized for them. Interesting contests were waiting for children. They sang songs in English, were discussing WHAT IS LOVE?. Children were in fond of team contests and greeting St. Valentine cards making. Everyone has received sweet presents at the end of the event.

One more family has received a package overseas. A representative of Ukrainian diaspora in the USA packed a great parcel for the family of the fallen ATO soldier (according to the Decree of the President 282/2015, May 23rd, 2015, he has been awarded with the Order for the Courage of III Degree (posthumously) for the personal courage and high professionalism in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for the loyalty to the Military Oath). Ruslan and his mother Maryna were very glad because they could find out many interesting things in the box. Toys, books, clothes and, also, new backpack and stationary were waiting for the boy. Mother is very thankful for such care and help.
