This project serves an extension to Support Moldovan Children With Cancer, our first project on GlobalGiving. Support Moldovan Children With Cancer worked with the Institute of Oncology in Chisinau, Moldovan capital. When project was fully funded, we decided to open a wider program to include other pediatric departments of Moldovan hospitals to serve needs of young patients, their families, as well as medical community, in a more comprehensive and encompassing way.
Most of Moldovan children receive treatment at the state-run clinics. Despite the hard and dedicated work of hospital staff, these clinics often face shortages in medicines and medical equipment due to budget limitations and pressing demand. On the other hand, hospital stay can be painful and stressful for patients of all ages, especially for children, who could also benefit from some distraction items, such as games or comfort items.
We partner with pediatric departments of Moldovan hospitals to facilitate purchases of medicines, medical equipment and other supplies. Our cooperation with the Institute of Oncology in Chisinau has proved beneficial and we will aim to adapt the same model to the other pediatric departments.
We are creating a long-term support. About 30 children from different parts of Moldova receive treatment at the pediatric departments at the Institute of Oncology taken alone. Your support will give these children and children at the other hospitals chance to recovery and faster reintegration to the communities.
