Project Update: Continuing Resource Mobilization for Flood-Affected Communities

ONG ASRAD remains committed to supporting vulnerable families and communities affected by flooding in Mali through the project “Assistance to Flood-Affected Populations in Mali.”

Flooding continues to place vulnerable households at risk by damaging homes, livelihoods, food supplies, sanitation facilities, and essential community infrastructure. Families affected by these disasters often require urgent humanitarian assistance as well as longer-term support to recover and strengthen their resilience.

During this reporting period, ASRAD has continued its efforts in needs assessment, community engagement, coordination, project preparation, partnership development, and resource mobilization.

However, the financial resources currently available remain insufficient to provide humanitarian assistance at the scale required. For this reason, ASRAD continues to seek additional funding from donors, foundations, humanitarian partners, institutions, companies, and individual supporters.

Priority Humanitarian Needs

Subject to the availability of resources, the project seeks to support flood-affected households through assistance such as:

• Emergency food and essential household supplies;
• Safe drinking water and basic hygiene materials;
• Temporary shelter and protection support;
• Sanitation and public health awareness;
• Support for particularly vulnerable women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities;
• Community-level recovery and resilience activities;
• Information and awareness on disaster preparedness and risk reduction.

ASRAD's approach places affected communities at the center of the response so that assistance can be directed toward the most urgent locally identified needs.

The Current Challenge: Limited Funding

Our principal challenge remains mobilizing sufficient financial resources to respond effectively to the needs of flood-affected populations.

Without adequate funding, it is difficult to reach all vulnerable households requiring assistance and to provide the level of support necessary for recovery.

Every contribution received through GlobalGiving can help ASRAD purchase and distribute essential relief items, support community outreach, strengthen local response capacity, and assist vulnerable households in recovering from the consequences of flooding.

Beyond Emergency Relief

While immediate humanitarian assistance is essential, ASRAD also recognizes the importance of strengthening community resilience to future disasters.

Climate variability and increasingly severe weather events make preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and community resilience increasingly important.

Our long-term objective is therefore to combine humanitarian response with practical measures that help communities better prepare for and withstand future floods and other climate-related shocks.

Next Steps

As funding becomes available, ASRAD plans to:

• Continue identifying and assessing the needs of vulnerable flood-affected households;
• Mobilize additional humanitarian and financial partners;
• Procure essential emergency relief items;
• Organize targeted distributions for vulnerable families;
• Strengthen water, sanitation, hygiene, and health awareness activities;
• Support community preparedness and disaster risk reduction;
• Monitor assistance delivered and collect feedback from beneficiaries;
• Document lessons learned to strengthen future emergency responses.
