Children in San Mateo del Mar, Oaxaca face exclusion and limited safe spaces. Through Sports with Purpose, we use play to build wellbeing, confidence, and community. After representing Mexico at the Street Child World Cup, the Ikoots youth return home as leaders. This project ensures their journey continues-creating safe spaces where more children can grow, connect, and thrive.
In San Mateo del Mar, many children lack access to safe spaces, structured activities, and opportunities to grow. This increases risks of exclusion, poor emotional wellbeing, and school dropout. Even after life-changing experiences like the Street Child World Cup, youth often return home without ongoing support-limiting the long-term impact on their lives and communities.
We provide ongoing socio-sport sessions, trained coaches, and equipment to create safe, inclusive spaces for children. Youth who participated in the Street Child World Cup become role models, inspiring others. Through play, children build teamwork, resilience, and confidence, strengthening their wellbeing and creating positive change in their community.
This project turns a one-time global experience into lasting local impact. Youth grow into leaders who promote respect, inclusion, and wellbeing in their community. Over time, children develop skills, confidence, and stronger social bonds-creating safer environments and positive change that extends beyond individuals to families and the wider community.
