The proposed project aims to help children with disabilities through special education /therapeutic support. The project targets children with different disabilities between the age of 2-10 years from economically deprived sections of the community. The main focus of the project is to make children self-dependent and ready for mainstream education through training in daily living skills /therapeutic interventions. One of the initiatives in this direction is the setting up of a Montessori school.
Children with disabilities are not equipped with school readiness skills, they find it very difficult to get integrated into regular schools. Our intervention also focuses children below the age of 6 so that they are enrolled into regular schools at an appropriate age and their education is facilitated and monitored. As stated earlier, the project would focus on children with disabilities from economically deprived sections of the community. education of such children was not a priority for the families due to reasons, financial and others. Even if such children are enrolled in schools, drop out rate is very high due to poor ability of children to cope up with the curriculum and no support from the teachers and family members in absence of any sensitization effort.
The objectives to be achieved i. To prepare children with disabilities in school readiness skills. ii. To facilitate their enrollment and retention in mainstream schools. iii. To provide Montessori education to children with disabilities. iv. To create awareness amongst various stakeholders for ensuring the above. The Target Group The target group would be the children with disabilities in the age group of three to eighteen years, from economically deprived sections of the community.
