The Art for Peace project protects vulnerable youth in Ecuador from criminal recruitment through urban art forms like dance, rap, and muralism. We provide safe spaces where adolescents can explore creativity, develop leadership, and gain entrepreneurial skills. Mentorship and psychosocial support reinforce social justice and community cohesion, promoting peace and opportunity. Support us in empowering young people to become agents of change and building a brighter future.
Problem Statement: Ecuador has seen a dramatic decline in peace, dropping 12.36% in the Global Peace Index (2024). With a homicide rate of 45 per 100,000, it's now the most violent nation in Latin America, driven by drug and gang activities. In 2023, over 1,300 minors were apprehended for serious crimes, highlighting the urgent need to protect vulnerable youth from the escalating security crisis.
This project provides youth with alternatives to gang involvement through urban art, mentorship, and skills development. It empowers them to become leaders for peace, directly impacting over 860 young people and indirectly benefiting 2,580 others, including families and educators. By fostering creativity and entrepreneurship, the initiative builds a foundation for sustainable community transformation, rooted in positive peace and resilience.
The project will create a network of 860 trained mentors and 2,580 indirectly impacted individuals with skills in art, leadership, and entrepreneurship. This network will promote a culture of peace and resilience across regions, reducing juvenile delinquency and enabling sustainable community transformation. The initiative aims to establish lasting societal change by empowering future generations to become leaders and advocates for peace.
