At the end of August, TIPA launched a pilot “Letterbox” project at Bambous A. Government School, creating a simple and accessible way for the children to share situations they experience at school or at home and feel heard and supported. Following age-appropriate class discussions with the children to explain the project’s purpose and how it could be used to channel feelings in an emotionally safe way, the letterbox is now available and ready to use; younger children who cannot yet write properly were invited to simply write their name on the given piece of paper, which had been colour-coded as per their class, to allow the TIPA team to follow up, offer a listening ear and provide essential coping tools. The project runs smoothly and letters are already being collected on a weekly basis by TIPA team and the School Head Mistress in the letterbox, including from smaller grades kids expressing situations of school conflicts, for which TIPA proposed tools of conflict resolution. The team is still fine-tuning the project and developing an implementation manual with a subcommittee composed of teachers, to enable its smooth running and sustainability. The TIPA team appreciates the motivation of the school direction and staff for the project's implementation.
