Ol Pejeta's armed rangers are the untold heroes of conservation. Every day and every night, these incredible heroes, who keep our rhinos and other wildlife safe, put their lives on the line. It is not easy to be a ranger. It requires stamina, courage and commitment. And it also requires a lot of resources and training to keep them properly equipped and safe. Today we ask that you help these brave men by contributing to their safety and well-being.
Rangers risk their lives daily to protect Africa's wildlife. Over a thousand rangers have been killed in the line of duty since 2003. This is all because of the demand for rhino horn and elephant tusks. These brave men are the first line of defence against poachers and are too often neglected and overlooked.
Rangers on the ground must be better equipped. But they also need support beyond backpacks and boots. They must be respected and supported by the organisations they work for and national laws against poaching enforced. At Ol Pejeta we take pride in our armed team. We focus on the need for increased professionalism, training and equipping rangers, and development and promotion of ranger standards and welfare.
If our rangers are well-trained, well equipped and feel valued, then our wildlife will be safe.
