Aqui Estoy (AE) is a global helpline for Spanish-speaking youth and women that offers emotional support through WhatsApp. We alsconnect with our community on TikTok and provide text-based support to prevent anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and mental health issues. Global mental health indicators show a rising trend in anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts among youth and women. Youths and women in the global south, in particular, face cultural, social, and economic barriers that exacerbate these challenges and hinder access to support services.
Leveraging TikTok's reach, "Aqui Estoy" proactively connects with Spanish-speaking youth and women, directing them to our WhatsApp-based helpline first focused on prevention. Early intervention through these familiar channels offers timely support, mitigating mental health issues before they intensify.
Through sustained awareness campaigns and empathetic listening training, "Aqui Estoy" envisions a future where mental health literacy flourishes within the Hispanic community. Our efforts on TikTok and WhatsApp will catalyze a shift towards proactive mental wellness, reducing stigma and empowering youths with the skills for lifelong emotional resilience.
