At the end of December, Appleseeds moved to its new headquarters to Ramla. We look forward to being able to provide vital technological opportunities through innovative programs to impact the lives of underserved populations in our new Hub & Campus. some of these innovative programs include: Net@ youth movement, Open Workspace, Startech High-Tech School, Employment Training, Seeds Entrepreneurship Program and a Startup Accelerator. Ramla is an incredibly diverse city with Jewish, Christiana Muslim residents, in Israel’s periphery that reflects the coexistence work of Appleseeds.
One of our first events in the Hub was training for the National Initiative for the Promotion of Digital Literacy among Senior Citizns. The first seminar for the "Click Veteran" program was held in Appleseeds' Hub and staff from Appleseeds trained female National Service members how to teach senior citizens, who may be confined to their home, useful technological tools. The program will see volunteers visit the homes of the elderly for a year and engage in one on one teaching sessions focusing on technological skills in accordance to the interests of the individual senior citizsen. This will introduce the elderly population to the many technological tools that they can later take advantage of to navigate the digital world, whether it be culturally, educationally or for leisure. The day was full of online learning through their smarthphones and they learned important information and skills that they will take back to their volunteer opportunities in order to better connect them the eldery to the world around them. The program works in coopration with the National Service and the Ministry for Social Equaity.
We are looking forward to hosting many more impactful events in our space and seeing it really become a meeting space for citizens of Ramla.
