Challenge

Children who are in protection systems and cannot find a foster family run the risk of being street youth. La Casa de la Sal A.C. For 35 years, it has benefited adolescent boys and girls living with HIV in a situation of orphans, we provide all food services, control of their physical and mental health, clothing and education.

Solution

We work together with a team of specialists who design a transition strategy for independent living according to each child. After reaching the age of majority (18 years) they enter a transitional house where they continue their studies and are accompanied in the reintegration into society, once they have the tools to be able to leave the house they are accompanied with other services within our center in order to continue monitoring the needs of each person.

Long-Term Impact

Children and adolescents living with HIV who grow up in a shelter are able to finish their basic studies and start a professional career to improve their living conditions. This project improves the living conditions of children by turning them into adults who have worked through the stigma and discrimination that they experience as a result of the HIV diagnosis, empower themselves and manage to finish their education, joining formal work and an independent job.
