Mision Huascaran's Education Program reaches +500 students across 9 rural Andean schools for elementary level and 5 for sencondary level students. Bilingual teachers (quechua speaking) deliver daily literacy sessions inside playful libraries equipped with tablets and 500+ digital books and other learning materials. In 2025, students read 48,081 short texts, averaging 156 per child and 85% advanced at least one literacy level while attendance averaged 93%.
Reading comprehension in Peru is ranked 64 out of 77 countries in the 2018 PISA ranking. In addition, according to the Ministry of Education in the rural areas where Mision Huascaran is present, only between 4 and 7% of children have a satisfactory level of reading comprehension.
Our educational program aims to improve this skill and has the following components: 1 Teacher with a master's degree in learning problems and is specialized in early educatioon. She leads the reading comprehension through close coordination and training to the public-school teachers with whom we work. 9 school libraries with tablets distributed to children of 9 primary schools and 5 secondar. Raz-Plus licenses (leading reading comprehension software in the US) and 8 School bio gardens
Expand the project during 2027 2 new librarIes at schools 5 new dio gardens 251 more children in the reading comprehension program at 2 schools in rural areas Our main goal is to increase in 300 students their reading comprehesion and provide them the tools to achieve this goal.
