By Karen Erickson & James B. Lin | Board Members, Phages for Global Health
The President of our organization, Dr. Tobi Nagel, is in the final stages of conducting her Fulbright Global Scholar project, which is focused on regulatory systems for phage-based drugs. Over the past 2 years, Tobi has gathered information about how phages are regulated in the US, Europe and Australia and shared that with national leaders in Africa and Asia.
The Fulbright Commission provided funding for Tobi to work for 2 months each in Kenya, Malaysia and Uganda. Being able to spend that much time in these countries has opened doors and enabled very productive conversations, helping to pave the way for future phage therapy there. A key example: Phages for Global Health is now collaborating with the Malaysia Ministry of Health, which has decided to develop a national plan for phage therapy!
Please join us in celebrating this exciting progress toward addressing the antibiotic resistance crisis in Africa and Asia!
