We are thrilled to announce one of our most successful Silent Auctions to date! We raised over $43,000!!! While we had a lot of fun with the event, it was more important to us to share what we do with a large number of people new in our community. We thank our community of donors (aka attendees) for their generosity! The event would not as been successful without the hard work of two “Friends of the Board” who I will refer to both as Mrs. M (you know who you are!). The IBSF board works hard all year long to identify the needs of the students of our beach school and another local school proximate to us and provide for those needs. Raising these funds annually ensures not only that they can secure funding for another year for teacher salaries, food program, generator for electricity, misc construction maintenance projects, textbooks, and supplies. We also pay for scholarships for top students in a boarding school program and technical school. We also provide a boat and maintenance that the school can use as a “school bus” to pick up students from neighboring villages on the waterway, to provide further educational outreach to those who it would not be available to otherwise. And much more...
Directly after the auction, we were able to start putting those funds to good use. In December 2018, we were able to make repairs to the dilapidated teachers quarters, buy school supplies as Christmas gifts for each student, to buy new textbooks for students in every secondary classroom and purchase then deliver a new generator to the school. This is in addition to our normal monthly support earmarked for teacher salaries, food, and generator fuel. Raising the funds that we were able to generate, also allows us to ensure the school will have an endowment for many years to come…
“Many Thanks” to our donors and Friends of the Board who make all of this possible! The students and staff at our schools are your biggest fans!
