Children preparing for the Animal Fair
Children preparing for the Animal Fair

The children in Mataglapa are drawing their favorite animals. Sadly these animals are all in danger of extinction.  But they are doing these drawing with a lot of hope.  The more we draw attention to these animals the more we will be able to come up with some solutions to stop their extinction.  The drawings are part of our contest in the Fair about Animals in Danger of Extinction.  We have a little less than a month before we have the fair on the 8th of Nov. in the Park of Stars.

All areas of Special Families are  going full force preparing for the fair, generating much special energy in pro of these animals that it is contagious and the schools in the city have caught on and so have all the speical moms both with their own draing contests

--Artespecial will have artistic replicas of animals throughout the park, including monkeys, jaguars and sloths as well as birds, and turtles.

--Yogurt has prepared special tops painted with animals so children and adults can collect a series of  original faces of the different animals.

---Direction has a booth for people to write expressions of support for their animals and messages of hope for the natural environment this will be in the tree house with a message shoot down to the Master of Ceremonies who will read their messges to the crowd.

--There will be speakers and presentations on the situation of animal protection across Nicaragua.

--Special Education will present their children book " Pepe and the Animals in Danger of Extinction" Pepe a little boy in a wheel chair.

--There will be face painting as animals in danger and also animal masks made by the artists,

--Other organizations in Matagalpa who work with environmental projects will have the opportunity to have a booth and to present information about their work.

--The Women’s Collective will be presenting a theater presentation on the environment

--The government’s tourism dept. will present different information about the dangers animals face and what can be done about it.

- All the drawings entered in the contests will be displayed and the awards will be presented during the fair. Each school that participates will also receive recognition, as many businesses have donated the prizes and awards for both the children and the mothers contests.

-The university and several schools will perform typical dances, as well as poetry, songs and readings.

All of this and more in the natural setting of the accessible Park of Stars.

We are hoping that this fair will help inform people, bringing about awareness and action about the situation of the animals in danger of extinction.  We hope to provide alternatives so that people can continue their commitment and find creative ways to change this sad situation.

We are counting on your support to help us meet the costs of this fair so that we can make a difference together, thank you.  Please join us in this struggle to keep all of our animals from becoming extinct.

Helping people become more and more aware of the dangers animals are facing in their struggle to survive is the aim of the artists in FE.  These artists who each have different disAbilties know that to many people the extinction of Animals doesn’t seem to be important with all the activities that they are involved in daily.  These artists decided that if they paint or draw the different animals and show the beauty that perhaps people will wake up before it is too late to save these special animals from extinction.  Nicaraguans have always been proud of their animals and it is very hard to make a transition to believing that these animals are in danger of extinction.  There have always been Tucans and there will always be the Jaguar in Nicaragua, yet this is now not true as they are in danger of extinction. These artists were shocked to also learn that the dolphin is in danger of extinction and that they are missing many plants that their children will never see.  It is not easy to talk about this loss.  So they started to copy and paint these animals on everything that comes into the recycling center.  They are saying No, these animals must continue they must be helped.

What can a deaf person do about it and what can a person who is partially paralyzed do to change this course of history?  In October these artists will come together with other people to share their concerns about the future of Nicaraguan animals who are on the endangered list.  Before the fair they will be visiting schools and encouraging students of all ages to draw their favorite animals  as part of an art contest to bring about awareness of these animals and their future.  The fair will have guest speakers who will share their knowledge and expertise and hopefully give some concrete answers to children who say “why should the turtles go out existence?  I love these creatures.”  The fair is a way for groups to come together and share their ideas and experience, with videos, and displays about these animals. They are making replicas of the animals in their habitat because the habitat is what is disappearing in Nicaragua as development and one crop farming take more space away from birds and wildlife, even from the birds and other animals that migrate from the north each year.  The big question is what can we do to save these animals? Nicaragua is in a political social economic crisis and it is not popular to talk about how the wildlife is suffering but each child who draws their favorite animal starts us all thinking we have to focus on this danger of extinction.

Angelica is one of these artists and she spends her day painting the animals that she loves mostly birds.  She was born deaf and so has never heard the beautiful songs of the birds that she paints.  But when someone sees her paintings they hear the music in their soul and know that we have got to do something to save these animals from extinction, even the sloth has got to be saved from extinction.
