There are hundreds of animals in danger of extinction in Nicaragua, losing their habitats to development. Artists with w/disabilities are telling the stories of these endangered birds, tigers, turtles, dolphins & other animals to the public. Many Nicaraguan favorite animals are on the Endangered List: Tucans, Jaguars, turtles, butterflies. With recycled art, an educational/art fair & a school drawing contest in Matagalpa. They are fighting animal extinction before it is too late.
In Nicaragua, the natural habitats for a wide variety of animals are being destroyed & putting animals on a list for extinction. Most people are not aware of this, but artists w/disability in Familias Especiales have researched this issue & want to use art to bring these animals to the public's attention. They are planning an art fair: Animals in Danger of Extinction, plus a drawing contest in schools in Matagalpa. Their art reflects the natural beauty and needs to save these animals.
By doing an Art Fair Animals in Danger, more people will be aware of the problem. In the art drawing contest, most young people will be motivated to learn more about their favorite animals. They will become part of the solution for an alternative for these animals. By drawing these animals, we are making sure that nobody forgets them. The Fair will present different ideas on how people can get involved. Awareness will bring about change, and maybe these animals will survive.
The more people are made aware of the problem; the more likely a solution can come about. The biggest problem is the loss of habitats for development. This fair will help those animals cry out, and as children draw their favorite animals, they will be aware that this animal may not exist in the future. They are keeping this issue in the public debate to find alternatives for these animals to continue to live alongside the Nicaraguans and the whole world benefits.
