Angaza, which loosely translates to Light up, intervenes at significant and potentially catalytic transition periods for girls and young women - primary to secondary school, secondary to tertiary education, professional career, and young adulthood- facilitating their access to quality education.
The program awards comprehensive multi-year secondary school scholarships to girls and young women from predominantly rural and low-income backgrounds, giving them a competitive edge to acquire post-high school scholarships and personal development opportunities across the world.
As we kicked off 2022, Akili Dada embarked on a scholarship recruitment exercise that spanned four partner schools in Kenya's ASAL regions i.e. Kilifi, Kwale, Turkana, and Samburu. As a result, we have received applications from a total of 88 bright girls and young women in need of financial support to enable them to stay in school.
The next few months (March/April) will see the Aganza team conclude the scholars' recruitment exercise by shortlisting, interviewing, and awarding 18 multi-year scholarships for girls and young women from the four partner schools in the four counties. This process will include a due diligence exercise that will feature home visits and risks assessments to provide us a deeper appreciation of the scholar's needs and associated contextual challenges to enable us to support them better.
We sincerely appreciate the continued support that enables us keep more girls in school.
In solidarity with girls,
Akili Dada
