Angaza (Swahili for light up) intervenes at pivotal and potentially catalytic transition periods for girls and young women. The program awards comprehensive multi-year high school education grants to girls from underserved and under-resourced backgrounds through Angaza's recent primary school and high school graduates access networks and platforms, giving them a competitive edge to acquire both high school and post-high school education grants as well as personal development opportunities.
Our experience has taught us that in crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, girls and young women are the first to be removed from school and the last to return. This is attributed to diminished incomes, shifting priorities, and emergent pressures on household budgets, including addressing health emergencies. For the rural and low-income communities that we work with, safeguarding daily sustenance results in decisions to cut expenditures, including those related to girls' education.
With your investment, Akili Dada will facilitate access to multi-year education grants are provided to girls across 4 of the most underprivileged areas in Kenya - Turkana, Kwale, Kilifi & Samburu. Girls in the program will further have access to mentorship, psychosocial support, and development. By journeying with these girls, we will reap double outcomes of safeguarding their access to holistic quality education and ensure that they enjoy their full education and human rights.
As a result of the intervention, we envision the following impact: i) Girls and young women will continue to access education and holistic learning resources, resulting in improved retention and transition into institutions of higher learning ii) Girls and young women will exhibit enhanced leadership skills and personal growth that will have an immediate and future impact on their lives and communities iii) Girls and young women will have their voices amplified and heard
