Akili Dada's Angaza Education Grants facilitate multi-year education grants supporting girls' education in four counties in Kenya, Turkana, Kwale, Kilifi & Samburu.
In 2021, we undertook site visits to three of the four counties: Kilifi, Kwale, and Samburu, connecting with girls, women, and the larger community to appreciate the impact that COVID 19 had on girls education.
We've since learned that counties in Kenya's Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) continue to register some of the lowest development indicators, with significantly low literacy and numeracy attainment. This indicated that girls in hard-to-reach populations would continue to be left behind if something is not done.
We strongly believe that a community anchored, a multi-intervention program focusing on access to education and economic empowerment whose primary beneficiaries are women and girls will go a long way in reducing the vulnerabilities and creating systemic change that improves the life outcomes of women and girls in these contexts. With these lessons, we seek to pilot a project that will see us take education to out-of-school girls to empower them to integrate into the formal education system.
In addition, we know that access to mentorship, psychosocial support, and development will be critical to ensuring that we build resilient communities that create environments in which women and girls thrive.
Through the support of the GlobalGiving Campaign, we have raised $ 424 (Four Hundred and Twenty Four dollars). We are yet to reach our goal; however, we invite you to continue supporting our work by amplifying our campaign and helping us reach our goal.
