Half-Year Report of the One Egg Project in 2024

By Jankin Han | Project Leader

Dear donor,

Greetings! I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your invaluable support towards the One Egg Project. I am delighted to present to you the first-half report of the One Egg Project for 2024.

The One Egg Project kicked off its sponsorship for the spring semester of 2024, reaching out to 14 provinces across the country. Collaborating with 141 organizations, we have successfully supported 1137 schools, benefiting a total of 203,784 teachers and students.

Project Updates:

In March, the volunteer observers recruited by the "One Egg" project for public outreach embarked from Shanghai to Guangxi for a project visit. In Xiangzhou Town, Tiandong County, we encountered adorable children who immediately flocked around us upon our arrival. Witnessing their vibrant energy, we were once again convinced of the positive impact the project has brought. Shouldering the task of evaluation, we measured the height and weight of each child, hoping to see them taller and stronger when we return next year!

In April, we traveled to Liangshan, Sichuan, for project visits and video filming. Project staff visited the schools and homes of Yi children, capturing many heartwarming moments. We eagerly anticipate sharing the final footage with everyone. Simultaneously, the "One Egg" project inspector program was officially launched, partnering with university volunteers to conduct inspections at all project schools, ensuring that every bit of kindness translates into tangible results!

In May, with the approach of the National Student Nutrition Day on May 20th, we once again focused our attention on the vital issue of student nutrition and health. To this end, the "One Egg" project invited Dr. Tan Tao, Chief Nutritionist from the Department of Clinical Nutrition, Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and nutrition expert Gu Zhongyi to jointly advocate for children's nutrition and discuss the changes brought about by the "One Egg" project. In May, we loved ourselves and cared for the children in the countryside as well.

Project Story:

On the sunny morning of May 6th, as I prepared to cook delicious, loving eggs for the children as usual, I found myself increasingly burdened by my growing belly after months of pregnancy. Every movement felt clumsy and heavy. As I struggled to squat down to count the eggs, a clear and innocent voice rang out from behind me, "Teacher, what are you doing?" I turned around to see the adorable Shu Shu.

Smiling, I replied, "I'm getting the eggs." Immediately, she approached me earnestly and said, "Teacher, you have a baby in your belly, you shouldn't squat down. It'll hurt her, and you'll get tired too. Let me help you!" Without hesitation, she squatted down in her tiny frame and began counting the eggs for me. Hearing her thoughtful words, a warm current surged through my heart, erasing all traces of fatigue.

In no time, Shu Shu had used her little hands to pack all the eggs and even helped me carry them to the kitchen. We chatted happily as we washed the eggs. As we savored the delicious eggs, Shu Shu came up to me and said, "Teacher, let me count the eggs for you from now on!" With that, she turned and joyfully ate her egg with her friends.

These little eggs have not only nourished the children but also silently taught them kindness and gratitude. I deeply feel that every loving egg is a testament to the children's happy growth. Through this project, I hope to inspire more children like Shu Shu to learn to care for others, understand gratitude, and thrive in a joyful atmosphere.

Thank you once again for being a part of this meaningful endeavor. We will continue to provide project feedback, and we hope everyone can do their utmost to help the children.
