Be a part of this transformative initiative and help build bridges between worlds! We're bringing together 137 young people from diverse backgrounds in Sao Paulo. This unique exchange fosters mutual understanding and strengthens community bonds. Our young people are the future guardians of the Amazon, crucial in keeping this vital ecosystem alive. Your support, no matter the size, can make a lasting difference.
The Amazon holds over half of the world's remaining tropical forests and vast freshwater reserves. It spans 1.4 billion acres of forest and 4,100 miles of rivers. However, it faces severe threats, including fires-38,266 recorded in August 2024, the highest since 2005. The region also struggles with low Human Development Index (HDI). Preserving the Amazon is urgent, not only to protect these resources but also to engage the youth, who will be its future guardians (National Geographic Society).
Sharing challenges, dreams, and lessons among teenagers from Amazonian communities in Brazil has significantly benefited participants in the program. Over 10 years, reports show that these youths have broadened their perspectives and made more conscious, responsible choices. Nature Guardians promotes intercultural dialogue in innovative ways, fostering respect for the environment and highlighting its global importance.
Our goal is to impact 360 teenagers-154 from the Amazon and 137 from Sao Paulo-through collaboration among 8 participating schools and institutions and 8 Amazonian communities. In 2023, we facilitated 4 training meetings, 5 exchanges, and 2 face-to-face gatherings for these young people. In the long term, our project aims to empower local populations to protect the Amazon's natural wealth in the most effective ways, fostering sustainability and resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
