Dear friends,
The Mexican Alzheimer's Center sends you its warmest regards and best wishes for your well-being, and we are always grateful for your interest and contributions to the project that improves the quality of life for people with dementia and their families.
We will report on the period from June to September 2025, which includes two important dates in the year: National Senior Citizens Day (August 21) and World Alzheimer's Day (September 21).
The third Sunday of every June is Father's Day in Mexico, a day that brings families together and, in the case of the Mexican Alzheimer's Center, the extended family of peers, caregivers, and staff of the institution. The celebrations took place both online and in person. Congratulations to all the fathers!
August 28 was another very emotional and festive day. In addition to Mother's Day and Father's Day, which are also celebrated in other countries, Mexicans celebrate children (April 30) and grandparents or older people who are not yet grandparents. The celebration at the Center was a big one: games, activities, competitions, and even a theatre play in which the seniors themselves were the stars, delighting their peers with their performance of La Muñeca. Congratulations!
Every year, our organization focuses on designing activities and events that raise awareness about Alzheimer's and other dementias. This year, we called for #BailarporelAlzheimer (Dance for Alzheimer's) on Sunday, September 21, at the iconic Salón Los Ángeles in Mexico City. Six hundred people answered our call and had fun dancing to the rhythms of Dany's Band, Rumbiamba, and La Nueva Familia, with seniors with dementia and their families attending this extraordinary event.
The next day, we continued with the activities, this time with the Masterclass You Can Live Happily with Alzheimer's, changing families' perspectives when they receive the diagnosis.
On Wednesday, September 24, we gave an informational and awareness talk to Johnson & Johnson employees from Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. They were very moved by an initial awareness-raising activity, followed by an informative talk and a dialogue about doubts and questions. Thank you to the participants for their enthusiasm and interest!
As September is World Alzheimer's Awareness Month, the media is seeking more information, approaching the Mexican Alzheimer's Center and publishing several articles:
We say goodbye today with a quote from the report on Doña Leo, a 93-year-old woman with dementia who has been receiving non-drug therapies online via Zoom at the Mexican Alzheimer's Center for five years:
"Doña Leo, the woman who once posed for Diego Rivera and became a symbol of Mexican identity, is now the face of thousands of people fighting Alzheimer's in Mexico. Her story reminds us that memory may falter, but dignity must never be lost.
Because in the end, the last thing we have left is love."

Thank you to everyone who has made this work possible for older people with dementia and their families!
