Children's Day celebration
Children's Day celebration

Dear friends,
it's our great pleasure to inform you about our project and the progress of our work during the last 4 months. But, first of all, we want to thank you for all your contributions to our project that has made it possible to reach people with dementia and their families through online activities and non-pharmacological therapies.

We will tell you about the highlights of these months:
April 28, Children's Day
Every April 30, Children's Day is celebrated in Mexico. At Centro Mexicano Alzheimer, this celebration is celebrated with great joy and enthusiastic participation of operational staff, students, family members and people with dementia. It is a moment of joy and happiness, combining reminiscence therapies with interventions of each one, memories of childhood and youth and how to preserve -even at age- the inner child. Thank you for making possible these moments of joy and happiness!

May 10, Mother's Day
Mother's Day is celebrated on May 10th. This celebration also takes place with all participants and attendees, honoring mom with thoughts, poems, reflections, songs and games. The love, affection and gratitude know no bounds.

June 16, Father's Day
On the Friday before Father's Day, which is the third Sunday of June, Centro Mexicano Alzheimer held a virtual celebration of Dad with a Facebook live broadcast celebration expressing affection and appreciation for dads and their contributions to the family and society.

At the end of June, we had a virtual visit from a residence in the south of Mexico City whose members participated in our stimulation activities and non-pharmacological MAKS therapies (Motor, Activities of Daily Living, Cognitive and Social stimulation). The exchange of experiences with the members of the Mexican Alzheimer Center was very fruitful, laying the groundwork for future interactions, linkages and participation. Thank you for your enriching visit!

July 12, GlobalGiving Bonus Day
This day was tremendously exciting and gave a great boost to our project. Seeing the donations coming in from each of you throughout the day gave us enormous joy! From the bottom of our hearts we deeply appreciate your contributions that will make it possible for more people with dementia to have access to structured activities and non-pharmacological therapies. Thank you, truly, thank you very much on behalf of everyone.

July 15, La Jornada: note from the National Institute of Geriatrics
The newspaper La Jornada published on July 15 an article with the title: Mexico, in a phase of accelerated aging: Institute of Geriatrics in which the head of INGER states that in Mexico "there are more than 12 million people over 60 years of age" which places us as a country in a process of accelerated aging," said Maria del Carmen Garcia Peña, director of the National Institute of Geriatrics (INGER). She explained that countries with 14 percent of their elderly population are classified as "frankly aging, and we are between 12.4 and 12.5 percent; in a very short time we will reach this percentage; there are already more people over 60 than children 5 years old and younger".

July 18, response of the Mexican Alzheimer's Center to the report
Days after the publication of INGER's article, La Jornada published the clarification of the Mexican Alzheimer's Center:
Aging projections for Mexico are already a reality
In response to the statements of Dr. María del Carmen García Peña, head of INGER, embodied in La Jornada's article of July 15, 2023, we would like to refer to INEGI's press release 568/22 of 9/30/2022 on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons:
"According to the National Occupation and Employment Survey New Edition (ENOEN), for the second quarter of 2022 it was estimated that 17 958 707 people aged 60 years and over (older adults) resided in Mexico. This represents 14% of the country's total population".
We have already reached the projection foreseen for the year 2030. The "frank aging" is a reality today that nobody wants to see. Age brings with it ailments such as dementias that today are invisible and a public health problem with 1.8 million families affected in the country, growing to 3.7 million in 2050, according to INNN projections.
There are proven slowing solutions such as the drug-free therapies implemented by the Mexican Alzheimer's Center online, which can reach those affected throughout the country. It is urgent to join efforts, break the silence and make possible the right to health of the elderly.

We reiterate our thanks and invite you to continue donating to our project and to share the information and invitation with friends, acquaintances and family. Thank you
