For Alzheimer Mexico, I.A.P. it is a great pleasure to share with our donors and allies our report of activities for the months of May, June and July. We are pleased to share with you the activities carried out during this period so you can feel part of them, since your support contributes to the daily operation of our foundation.
In May we celebrate one of the most important dates in the Mexican calendar: Mother's Day. In Alzheimer Mexico we recognize the importance of this date and the role of mothers in our family. More than 80% of our beneficiaries are women and they were the heads of families who deserve recognition for the great work they have done. For this reason, on May 10th we celebrated it in a big way with the presence of Fundación Azteca, A.C., which brought us a delicious cake and live music to sing and dance.
On May 23rd we closed our book drive "Reading is Remembering", which was announced on our Facebook page and we would like to send a special hug to the people who volunteered donated books and magazines. Thank you very much! We would also like to thank the students at Bachilleres 57 for their visit and their donation.
On the third Monday of each month, we hold our support group, a space to provide advice and information to caregivers and relatives of people with dementia, coordinated by the Psychology Program. On May 20th we discussed the theme "Gerontological Approach centered on the Caregiver of People with Cognitive Impairment", with Esperanza Cruz Rodríguez, and on June 17th “Keys to overcoming obstacles”, with the Day Center Psychologist, Graciela Zermeño. For July 15th, we expect the Victoria Dana´s conference, author of the book "Las palabras perdidas (The missing words)".
As a complement to cognitive and motor stimulation activities, Alzheimer Mexico organizes tours to different spaces, to stimulate walking, language, memory, among other important cognitive abilities.
So, on May 31th, we went to the Museum of History of Tlalpan to see the exhibition "Rituals Eros Tanatos", by the author Octavio Gomez. In this guided tour we had a different perspective of the human body. Very interesting walk! In addition, on June 26th, we visited the Jumex Museum, in a beautiful exhibition with giant and colorful objects. Thanks Jumex for the tickets!
On June 12, the student Hugo Soto from Universidad Iberoamericana, as part of his social service activities, organized a workshop on cognitive stimulation through touch. The beneficiaries with their eyes closed, tried to guess what material they were touching, feeling and sharing sensations. Thanks for the support, Hugo!
June is also a special month, on the 13th we celebrate Father's Day and on this occasion, we also celebrate the birthday of the founder and former president of Alzheimer's Mexico, I.A.P., Ms. Lilia María Groues del Mazo. As always, the party was very fun, we ate a delicious cake and there was a gift for everyone. Congratulations!
In the institution, we provide comprehensive and multidisciplinary care through six programs: Social Work, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Management and Nutrition. In March we participated in the Fund for Support and Improvement of the Infrastructure of the Private Assistance Board of CDMX through which we have restructured the kitchen to provide a better service, always. The reopening of the new space was celebrated in a big way, with delicious sandwiches, cake and live music. Cheeeeers!
In July and August, we will be working to renew our image in Global Giving and we have new ideas and projects that can only come true with the support of our alliances that trust in our work. We want to invite you to keep supporting the dementia treatment with your important donation and to invite your family and friends to support Alzheimer México I.A.P. as well.
And remember: “Starting at 9:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, July 18, GlobalGiving is putting up $130K in matching funds for donations of $100 and above. The higher the donation, the higher the match!”
You are very important to us! Please, don´t forget it!
