We are honored to share with you part of our August to October project activities. These months are very special to us because we celebrate important dates, as you will see.
In Mexico, we celebrate The Day of Older Persons on August 28th. In this occasion, we were invited to a breakfast organized by the government in which everybody danced and took many pictures, and we also received a foodstuff donation. We are grateful for this moment!
In our Day Care Center, we were visited by our storyteller volunteer Alma Castillo, who told us many beautiful stories that made our imagination fly. Thank you so much!
September is the Alzheimer´s International Month, which invites us to think about people with dementia and their caregivers, and how important is an early diagnosis to bring them the correct treatment that they should have. That´s way we look for public strategies to share information about dementia and self-care.
We organized, with an alliance with the Mexico City Government, especially with Sedeso (Ministry of Social Development), our macro 3rd edition to Alzheimer´s Learn and Act. It was a free event, for the whole family, with nine stands: Brain Exhibition, Crafts, Games, Basic and Instrumental activities of daily life, Gerontological information, Sensopeception, Talks with Experts, Family Support, and Information to Children and Teenagers. Useful information for everybody!
We also formed a human brain, made by 2,500 people with t-shirts from different colors, and finally, we took an amazing picture by drone, as you can see at the beginning of this report. Thank you, everybody who shared this experience with us!
On September 14th, we also celebrated our Independence Day (16th), with “mariachis”, and the Juan Gabriel´s cover, a famous Mexican artist represented by Carlos Bonilla, one of our member team. It was so funny!
October was such a special month, in which we prepare our proffer to our ancestors and dead family members that are not in this world anymore, but at the beginning of November (1st and 2nd) come to visit us. We eat a delicious “pan de muerto” donned by professor Roberto Garza-Castillón Cantú and his students, Alejandro Jiménez and Mikaela Renae, who came to celebrate with us.
We also received the visit of Professor José Heriberto García Peña, from the University Tecnológico de Monterrey Santa Fe, and students from Winpenny School, who bring us food supply. Thank you so much!
Besides all celebrations, we kept working normally, developing our attention model with our therapies, cognitive and physic stimulation, strategies to preserve capacities still not damaged by dementia.
We want to invite our donors to keep supporting the dementia treatment with your important donation and to invite your family and friends to support Alzheimer México I.A.P. as well. You are very important to us! Don´t forget it!
