Solar PV Support Brings Light to a Remote School in Chitwan

By Prachet Shrestha and Ashmita Rai | Team Leader and Program Officer

With the aim of improving the learning environment and addressing the challenge of electricity access, solar photovoltaic (PV) system was provided to Bhabisya Nirman Basic School, located in Parkhal, Ward No. 12, Rapti Municipality, Chitwan District. The school serves 62 students from ECD to Grade 3 and is managed by three dedicated teachers.

The village faces multiple development challenges, one of the most critical being the lack of access to electricity. Due to the rugged geographical terrain, the national electricity grid has not yet been extended to this remote settlement. As a result, the school was operating without  electricity, affecting classroom activities, administrative work, and the overall learning environment.

To address this challenge, support was provided for the installation of solar PV system (two 150 AH tubular batteries, 2000 VA inverter, two 250-watt solar panels, and related wiring). The solar PV system now provides a reliable source of electricity for the school, helping to create a safer and more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Teachers and school representatives expressed their appreciation for the support, noting that access to electricity has improved the school's daily operations and enhanced the learning experience for students.

Thank you for your support in helping improve educational opportunities and learning conditions for children in remote communities.
