Looking Back at the Project

Created by the Alpha Lumen Institute, Alpha EdTech Junior provides Information Technology training for young people from vulnerable backgrounds, expanding opportunities for social inclusion, professional development, and economic mobility.

Aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda, the project prepares young people for the challenges of the future of work by combining technical training with essential skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and independence.

Building on the progress made during the previous quarter, when students expanded their knowledge of digital security, networks, databases, and systems architecture, while also strengthening their participation in initiatives such as Ctrl+News and Company Moments, this period brought new challenges and hands-on learning experiences.

Key highlights:

• Deepening Machine Learning skills: Students explored model evaluation and optimization techniques, including confusion matrices, performance metrics, hyperparameters, GridSearch, cross-validation, and RandomizedSearchCV, strengthening their ability to analyze results and improve predictive models.
• Advancing database and backend development: Students worked with relational database structures, constraints, advanced DDL, Node.js and Knex integration, parameterized queries, SQL injection prevention, migrations, and seeds, developing practical skills in database management, application integration, and cybersecurity.
• Hands-on technical learning: The training continued to combine theoretical concepts with practical activities, encouraging students to apply their knowledge to real-world technology challenges and develop greater autonomy in problem-solving.

More than learning technology, students are developing the confidence to create, solve problems, and imagine a different professional future.

Every new skill opens another door. With the support of partners and donors, we can bring this training to more young people and help them turn knowledge into real opportunities, building more independent paths and a future filled with greater possibilities.
