Clean Hands, Saved Lives: Stop the Ebola Outbreak

By Overseas Team | Member of Overseas Team

Thank you everyone for following our projects, and here is the update of our activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Imagine running for your life from armed conflict, only to face an invisible, deadly enemy with no cure. In the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, families are currently facing a devastating double crisis: ongoing war and a rapid outbreak of the Ebola virus. With no approved vaccine available, basic hygiene and clean water are their only defense. Join Terra Renaissance in setting up life-saving handwashing stations and providing crucial hygiene education to protect 5,000 vulnerable people.

 Challenge

Meet Amina. Like hundreds of thousands of others in South Kivu province, she fled the violence of armed groups like the M23, grabbing only what she could carry to protect her children. Today, Amina lives in a crowded, temporary shelter. Her family has lost access to basic medical services and safe housing.

But now, Amina faces a new, terrifying threat. In May 2026, a severe outbreak of the Ebola virus (the Bundibugyo strain) was confirmed in the region. For this specific strain, there is no approved vaccine and no cure. Because of the ongoing conflict, mothers like Amina are often forced to rely on unsanitary water sources, leading not only to the rapid spread of Ebola but also to deadly outbreaks of waterborne diseases like cholera and diarrhea. They are trapped in a deadly double crisis of war and disease. (Amina is a representative name to protect the identity of our beneficiaries)

How We Help

When there is no vaccine, basic hygiene and clean water become the ultimate lifesavers. That is exactly what Terra Renaissance is delivering.

Navigating safely through conflict zones, our brave local staff are rapidly scaling up an emergency response. Building on our ongoing initiative that already provides safe natural water to over 13,000 women and children in the region, we are:

  • Installing Handwashing Stations: We are setting up 10+ high-capacity handwashing facilities with clean water and soap in high-traffic areas. Each station can protect about 300 people every single day.

  • Raising Awareness: We are producing and distributing educational posters and stickers in hospitals and busy markets, teaching over 5,000 residents how to protect themselves from the virus and identify early symptoms.

 Why Now?

Time is running out. With hundreds of confirmed cases and tragic deaths reported just weeks into the outbreak, this is becoming one of the most severe Ebola crises in recent African history. Because roads are cut off by the conflict, tracking the virus is nearly impossible. If we do not act immediately to provide clean water and hygiene education, the virus will continue to spread uncontrollably. We must act today to stop the outbreak in its tracks and prevent further loss of innocent lives.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

Your generous gift will directly fund our emergency response on the ground. Here is how you can make a difference:

  • $15 can provide life-saving educational materials (posters and stickers) to inform and protect 50 people in the community.

  • $50 can supply soap and ensure clean water maintenance for one handwashing station for an entire week.

  • $150 can fund the complete installation of a brand-new, foot-operated handwashing station, protecting 300 people every single day.

These resilient families have survived the horrors of war—please don't let them fall victim to a preventable disease. Even a small donation can provide the clean water and knowledge they need to survive this outbreak.

Please click the "Donate" button today to send hope, health, and clean water to the families of Eastern Congo. Together, we can save lives.
