Albania was hit by a major, 6.4 magnitude earthquake the morning of 11/26/2019. 20 people have died, hundreds injured, thousands left homeless, and more traumatized. One major city and several small towns are in rumbles, and thousands of people are living out in tents, stadiums and local shelters.
Our organization has an expertise on mother and infant care. As such our efforts will focus on providing assistance to mothers, either currently pregnant or those with new infants. We are at the site of impact providing clothes, food, sanitary products, and creating child friendly spaces. We are providing regional hospitals with medical supplies, and assisting social services help children in tents. Finally, we are providing psychological care for mothers traumatized by this experience.
The essence of these efforts are short term disaster relief and comfort care for those affected by the earthquake, but we hope that providing essential supplies to these families, helping hospitals provide quality care to infants and mothers, and providing psychological care for pregnant or new mothers will have unremarkable long term effects to their well-being.
