October 2012 Quarterly Report

By Auma Toepista | Project Leader

Rural Women's Empowerment Network (RWEN)

I am happy to send this report to you.
Thank you for the continuous assistance you have given to us.

Send our sincere thanks to all our friends, our donors.

152 get support from RWEN, this is scholastics, fees top up, uniform and mid-day meals.
Right how our children are in school getting ready for promotional examinations.

45 HIV/AIDS people i.e. they are always counseled and encouraged to get drugs (ARVs), septrine in time from their usual centers promptly.
The 10 HIV/AIDS children, five women have been assigned to take care of them and see to it that they get treatment in time. These women also visit these children weekly. They all get basic needs and food throughout.
TB cases, from the funds received in July, we managed to support them on drugs that time, and it was success for example streptomycin and tablets as required.

Elderly women and widowers:
Those near BUANOH get breakfast and lunch.

They are two i.e. one in baby class and the other in top. We always make sure that they get their drugs every month and take them in time as required and feed on breakfast and lunch.

We have embarked on tree planting through Phoebe Education Fund For AIDS Orphans and Vulnerable Children (PEEFO) an NGO, matoke (steamed banana staple food), coffee and garlic have been added for trial all several training in agricultural skills by ODECO but grown on small scale. Planting grass for animals has started by RWEN. The seasonal crops did not do well during the previous season because we had a long drought. We have again planted maize, cassava and beans.

Poultry/ Goats:
Some of our members have joined Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF2). However, there is an improvement in poultry and local goats’ too.

Long term survival skills:
Good balanced diet is practiced
Holistic approach is on
Stress almost done away with it
No more stigma in our communities due to much counseling, guidance and home visits done by RWEN members.

Good practice in agriculture
Good standards of living in the community
Agriculture is being practiced widely
Animals can now feed wells.

Poor yields due to long drought last season
Child headed families still need support.
However, transport to visits still a big problem.
