My Success story - Akullu

By samuel Odong | Administrative volunteer Lira

My name is Akullu, 14 years old, I am in primary six at Otim Tom primary school.

I am a daughter to the late Kato r and Adeke who died after a long illness due to HIV/AIDS, at the monent  I am living with my elder sister  Called Apio and I am staying in a child headed family

Before PLA found  me in 2013, I was not going to school since my sister could not raise school fees for me and my two younger sisters.I used to move on street selling Banana to raise money for survibal

When PLA found me, they were able to take me to school and I am no longer moving with Banana in street. During holiday, I am only selling my banana at the market near home not moving on street since my sister was told to stop sending me on street selling Banana by PLA staff since I was facing a lot of challenges from some bodaboda who used to demand for me from sex and they used to say that they will marry me and they will give me better life than selling banana.

I do thank God for using PLA for rescuring me. These men were too old for me and I could call them my father but even they end up touching my breasts  yet by then even I had no brest it was very small.

I am very happy now days because I knew I was going to stop in primary four but now I am at school . I am even more educated than the children of my uncles who refused to take care of us as they are not going to school claiming that their father does not have money to catter for there fees.

She said that she is very unique in their family, her mother did not go to school and her father too. All her sisters did not even go to school even her elder sister who is taking care of her did not go to school.

She appriciated platform for labour action for taking her to school and she will never disapoint them by droping out of school.

she said that her being helped by plat form for labour Acxtion has made communities around give them more respect . she said that since. PLA driver and one staffs  took me with the office car up to home,  and talked to my uncle who wants to give us parto oftour land which was left by my parents never disturbed them again and si nce Iam very happy that it is because of PLA, I am very sure that our  15 by 21 piece of land is secured

Akullu Said that she wants to be a teacher he most liked subject is Social Studies
