Platform for Labour Action with support from GlobalGiving is implementing a project entitled “Educate 100 War and HIV/AIDS Orphaned Ugandan Girls” whose overall goal is to empower female children through education in Lango Sub region. This project was started as a response to the 21-year-old LRA war that left many children orphaned and destitute. There is a pressing need for rehabilitation and empowerment of female children through education. Whereas Lira district is no longer affected by war and the communities are in rehabilitation, there remains a need to better the future for all children especially the female through girl child education.
2.0 SCHOOL MONITORING VISITS
PLA staff appreciated all schools for accommodating school beneficiaries at school even when their fees have not been cleared for first term
The PLA staff communicated to school Administrators that, the organization is working very hard to see that fees balances are cleared and they should not worry that the organization may not pay school fees for these children.
The schools which were visited included Omito Primary School, Lira Army primary School and Vision Ventures Women Entrepreneurs Association an institute that conducts vocational studies. a total of 5 female school beneficiaries were met, provided with psychosocial support and personal needs and living materials including sanitary pads, tooth paste, toilet papers, vaseline and scholastic material . Further the administrated had engagement meetings with the teachers who gave feedback on the beneficiaries’ academic performance that all the beneficiaries are performing very well in their respective classes
The beneficiaries in primary seven were successfully registered for primary leaving examination.
PLA staff also requested all School Administrators to be kind to these children and allow them to be at school because the organization will clear their fees shortly.
It was also found that, those in vocational education are doing very well and are awaiting to be passed out on the 18th April 2022 upon completion of their one-year training. The beneficiaries are objective that they start a joint saloon business
