This project will provide our "Stop COVID-19 Community KIT" to 103 rural artisans & their impoverished families (aprox. 750 people) in 5 remote villages in stunning but isolated Atauro Island, too far away for government support. With little information, no income (no tourists to buy their handicrafts) and no soap and masks the next 2 months will be critical to avoid the spreading of COVID-19 like wild fire. We provided initial support - but now they need AID for the next 2 months.
The outbreak of COVID-19 is hitting hard the artisans and their families that we have been supporting for the past 5 yeas. They live in very remote villages in the isolated Atauro island. Not able to sell handicrafts and with no access to soap, safe hand washing infrastructures, scarce water and information on how to prevent this pandemic, these 750 people are extremely vulnerable with almost no access to health services and support!
The Covid 19 Community Prevention KIT to distribute includes: (1) SOAP supply for one month for one family (2) A easy to do and use community HAND WASHING device (www.tippytap.org) (3) MASKS purchase from local artisans for one month (to use in markets, public meetings, etc), (4) Training by ED's staff on social distance, and hygiene on cooking, cleaning, hand washing, etc. (5) Share of information materials on COVID 19 from GOV, WHO and NGOs and local
The spread of COVID-19 on these rural and impoverished villages in Atauro' is greatly contained and artisans and their families are able to stay healthy and are able to go back to their income generation activities quickly to generate income for their communities.
