We have deployed 40 water rescue specialists for this intervention who will use boats and helicopters for rescue as the road to Beira has been washed away. Our team will provide food, water, medical care and shelter to little children and indeed adults who haven't eaten in days. We've rescued 2100 people trapped in the water. on ground we discovered 4500 people. There are now 6500 in this area that have had no material assistance nor medical care. We are supplying 1.4 tons of medical supplies.
Mozambique have felt the brunt of Tropical Cyclone Idai since its inception on 9 March. Already close to a million people have been displaced, scores have died and thousands of homes have been destroyed beyond repair. Landfall is expected in Beira, Mozambique, sometime between 9pm this evening and 8am tomorrow. Substantial devastation with massive flooding both from river and sea is expected. We have encountered many malnourished children and elderly.

We are helping rebuild infrastructure by repairing the only hospital in Beira.. where all theatres have ground to a halt due to damage. Once done, the surgical operations can restart.
