Through KujaEcoPads production, we will help 10 million rural women and girls in Cameroon to manage their monthly period in a hygienic and dignified manner by providing them with low-cost eco-friendly sanitary pads.KujaEcoPads is an innovation that produces 100% biodegradable sanitary pads from locally sourced banana stem fibers. We plan to build our first empowerment center for the 20 who are currently working in a very small rented space.
Majority of women and girls living in rural communities in Cameroon have no access nor affordability to sanitary napkins to use during their monthly period. This is due to poverty, high cost of existing brands, myths and taboos surrounding menstruation, which prevents them from being education about the subject and the options available to them.Western pads available Cameroon markets are made of 90% plastic and harmful chemicals which poses health issues to women and girls.
To provide a sustainable solution, I innovated KujaEcoPads-an innovation that manufactures low-cost eco-friendly sanitary napkins using banana stem fibers. These are sold at 60% cheaper than mainstream pads and accessible all women and girls to help them manage their menses in a hygienic and dignified manner. KujaEcoPads poses no health issues to women. The pads are natural and contain no harmful chemicals. They are also 100% biodegradable which reduces environmental pollution.
Investing in girls' education and health is a direct investment in the future. The center will Increase access to affordable sanitary pads for 10 million women and girls in the next two years. An improvement in the academic performance of school girls . Increase knowledge and awareness on menstrual hygiene,This will create sustainable employment and a source of income for 1000 women in the next five years. There will be no health related issues caused by the use of unhygienic clothes.
