Agroecology for farmers & nature health in Ecuador

This phase is getting to an end. And is a good ending, thanks to you all. In these last months we reached three important achievements:

First: what began with the arrival of alpacas, has evolved to a general transformation of the conditions and model of work of the San Isidro Farm, as well as the Mushuk Tukuy network itself. Thanks to the GlobalGiving support, not only the alpacas have completely integrated to the Farm, but we have reached important improvements, as the productive optimization of the greenhouses, the preparation of the Formation area, along side the old greenhouse; and the foundations of a garden of native flora.

Second: to approach to sustainability, we needed to develop a wider commercial effort; and again, what began with GlobalGiving help to aim to Ecommerce, has evolved too: we have reached an alliance with the Provincial Government of Pichincha, where Cambugan Foundation has received the responsibility to manage the Middle of the Word Store, a touristic commercial space next to the Museum of the Middle of the Word, in Pomasqui. In the same alliance, we are evaluating to combine the virtual commercial elements developed in Cambugan, with a bigger platform designed by the provincial Government. Internally, we have updated too our web page (www.cambugan.org). This commercial effort has been complemented by the negotiation of a pilot commercial agreement with a national firm, specialized in the production of spices and ingredients for food preparation; the agreement would allow to supply periodically, fresh product to the firm, in conditions which respect the environment and the identity of Mushuk Tukuy network. Right now we are in the middle of the negotiation.

Third: all the previous advances have defined a whole new challenge for Cambugan. But also new possibilities: two volunteers from Service Civiq of France will collaborate with agroecological work, and generation of communicational contents, to share the achievements, changes and learnings which GlobalGiving helped us to start.
