The Agricultural Support for 150 Farmers in Niger project is currently ongoing, with implementation activities progressing steadily despite funding limitations. At this stage, the project has not yet received donor contributions toward its $10,000 funding target, leaving the full amount still required to complete all planned activities. However, preliminary community mobilization, beneficiary identification, and coordination with local agricultural facilitators have commenced to ensure readiness for full-scale implementation once additional financial support is secured.
The project team has successfully identified vulnerable farming households across affected communities in Mokwa, Niger State, with priority given to families severely impacted by drought and food shortages. Preparatory arrangements for the procurement of drought-resistant millet and cowpea seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools are also underway. Financial constraints remain the major challenge affecting the pace of execution, particularly in the areas of input procurement, farmer training logistics, and transportation to remote communities.
Despite the funding gap, community participation and local interest in the project remain high, with farmers expressing strong commitment to adopting climate-smart agricultural practices once resources are distributed. The project continues to seek financial support and partnerships to enable the timely delivery of agricultural inputs and training activities before the peak planting season. With adequate funding, the initiative is expected to significantly improve food production, household income, and long-term resilience for over 1,000 vulnerable individuals in the region.
