African Angels Days for Girls Update

By Lou Billett | Chairperson, African Angels

The African Angels Days for Girls Enterprise was established in December 2020 to create employment for people living in the Chintsa East community, located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, producing a product that would always be needed - washable, reusable, sanitary pads.

Period poverty is a real issue for women and girls in South Africa, as it is estimated girls who do not have access to sanitary products because of a lack of financial resources, miss on average, 4 days of school a month, around 40 days, or just over a calendar month of school, a year.

Our Days for Girls Enterprise is part of the bigger Days for Girls International, and we have the support, mentorship, and collaboration with the DfG team all over the world, working with us to shatter the stigma around menstruation.

Since starting in December 2020 we have continued to employ 4 women on a full time basis, paying real wages, so they can support their families.  We have received donations to produce and hand out over 500 'Kits' to girls in low income communities and in rural high schools.  A portion of every Kit that is 'sold' for donation or use, is donated to fund the African Angels Independent School, in our area, that provides a quality primary school education for children from our local households.

There is no downside to our project, and product.

Washable, reusable sanitary pads last up to 3 years, and reduce plastic pollution.
Girls don't miss school when they have access to sanitary products.
Every sale helps fund education.

Please take action using the buttons below to help us continue our meaningful work.

Thank you.
