Communities identify those who need Emergency Aid

Dear Friends,
Community-based Learning Centers (LC) are one of the core programs of AIL. AIL works in partnership with each community where there is an LC with each partner contributing. One of the ways that an LC community assists AIL is in identifying those in their community who are the most in need of assistance. Many Afghans now need assistance because of the lack of jobs, high prices for food, a harsh winter and increasing security problems. AIL gives assistance four times each year and is now working with LC communities to identify those most in need for a distribution in February. As in the past, many of the recipients will be widows and those that are disabled. In the next report, we will give you the details of the February distribution of assistance.

Distributing food to the needy-50% Match on Giving Tuesday!

Dear Friends,
Today is #GivingTuesday! $500,000 in Matching funds are available for donations made to all Creating Hope International and Afghan Institute of Learning projects on GlobalGiving.

AIL’s summer distributions of food were very much appreciated by the families. Most recently another distribution was made to 75 families who each received 8kg rice, 3 liters oil and a can of tomato paste. The support makes all the difference to these families who live on the edge of society with barely enough to get by. The adults are occupied with looking for work on a daily basis just to have enough to eat.
One recipient said, “ I am so thankful to AIL for its help and kindness and generosity to us and for its leaders who order such acts. “

Distributions of Food and Clothing

In June, AIL was able to use its stored goods to put together 150 food kits for needy families. Each kit included 8kg of rice, 3kg of oil, and 1kg of tomato paste.
AIL maintains close ties with the Department of Women's Affairs in Herat and in July the department and 4 NGOs, including AIL, distributed food aid. AIL was assigned 75 families all of them were headed by widows who has lost a son in the war. These families received 8kg of rice, 3 liters of oil and a can of tomato paste.
All the families were delighted to receive this help. “I am very happy to get this food to help my children not be hungry,“ said one mother.
AIL also distributes clothing and in June clothes were given out to both boys and girls of the orphanages in Herat. Residents of the Peer Herat Disabled Center also got clothing. In all 165 garments for females and 215 male garments were handed out.
