This summer has flown by! The Right Care Alliance has been strategizing this summer on our campaign against medical debt. We are planning our campaign to kickoff this month calling on hospitals to stop sending unpaid bills to debt collectors.
Many hospitals have millions of dollars in reserves and are led by CEOs who continue to get big bonuses every year. There is no legitimate reason why hospitals need to pursue patients who can't afford to pay.
We held some direct actions in the spring where we shared stories of surprise medical bills and ceremoniously burned our bills. Now, we are planning a series of actions for the coming year calling on these very hospitals to stop this practice.
We also spent this summer in a membership drive, looking for more people to officially sign on as RCA members. Thank you to everybody who contributed, asked their friends and family to get involved, and signed up themselves!
