Our summer has been one of reflection. Our leaders at national, local and council levels have been debriefing our successes, our challenges, and what we have learned, and then planning our next round of goals and campaigns.
Right Care Alliance members from councils and chapters across the country came together in Boston over the weekend of July 20-21 for a national leadership retreat. We worked together on 3 new pillars for all councils, chapters, and RCA national to guide our movement: ideology and vision, recruitment and outreach, and strategic action. We shared our personal stories about why we fight for right care and the councils planned out next steps for physician and patient activists to write articles for the American Family Physician.
We also spoke about criteria and examples for strategic actions. We've continued meeting throughout August to narrow our decision, and the Steering Committee will make the final decision about strategic actions in September - so stay tuned!
The Right Care Alliance has been expanding the type of trainings we offer. This summer we have had an active group of members contributing to study groups. We have monthly local study groups in DC and Boston, and a group that meets online. We have been building a curriculum, readings and guiding questions for the study groups. Topics include the state of primary care in the United States, hospital billing, prices and regulations, single-payer health systems, democracy and health care, and the social drivers of health. If you are interested in starting or joining a local study group in your area, reach out to us at organize@rightcarealliance.org!
