RCA Activists marching to Sanofi
RCA Activists marching to Sanofi

Hello!

The Right Care Alliance is ending 2018 with a bang. We launched our training campaign this fall to support activists to plan visible, educational and strategic events. As part of the campaign, we’ve led trainings through one-to-one coaching over the phone, group sessions over video chat, and in-person gatherings. These events have brought national attention to the outrageous harms caused by high of prices of insulin and other life-saving drugs. None of this would have happened without you!

Here are some highlights of recent RCA activities made possible by these trainings:

Right Care Boston built on their organizing and media trainings to hold a powerful rally targeting Sanofi, one of the leading global producers of insulin. More than 85 patients, clinicians, students and activists came to support the fight for lower insulin prices, along with more than five news media crews. The march was lead by Antroinette Worsham, Nicole Smith-Holt, and James Holt, parents of young adults who died because they could not afford their insulin. Antroinette, Nicole, and James were joined by other people with Type 1 diabetes who are struggling to afford insulin themselves.

When the parents approached the entrance to the Sanofi building to deliver the ashes of their children, they were stopped by security guards and warned that they would be arrested if they want any further. Not only did Sanofi leadership not address the grieving families, they told their employees to go home for the day and shut down the building to avoid contact.

Right Care Gainesville organized a concert and speakout combining two of their favorite things - music and grassroots activism. They featured speakers sharing their struggles as patients and clinicians between musical acts. (Check out this video with photos of the event!).

Members in Rapid City, South Dakota had a  house party where military families shared their medical concerns and the DC chapter set up tables at farmers markets to educate community members about insulin pricing. You can stay up-to-date on Right Care Alliance events by subscribing to our newsletter, The Messenger.

We want to keep the pressure on pharma to make their medications affordable, so we’re planning to train more organizers and strategizing about next steps. We're a small but scrappy group and your support has a big impact. This has all been made possible because of you, so thank you!
