Drunk driving impacts every American. Every day. The statistics are horrifying - impacting 2 out of 3 people in their lifetime. It continues to be the #1 cause of death on our roadways and the destruction has a rippling effect. Families are torn apart, friends lost, communities shaken. At this challenging time, people are asked to deal with legal systems, medical systems, and the press, all while coping with grief and anger. They need support in managing it all and starting the healing journey.
When you Adopt an Advocate, you are providing a comforting voice on our 24/7 helpline - a voice that can provide emotional support, connect victims and their families to a Victim Advocate, link families to local community resources and more. When you "Adopt an Advocate" you will hear from three advocates from across the country throughout the year. They will share their challenges and triumphs as they help people move through one of the most traumatic events in their lives.
Long after the crash, survivors, family and friends continue to feel the impact. Those that don't receive help after their victimization can withdraw and become clinically depressed. Those who get the help they need are never "healed" -- there is always a loss there -- but many become victim advocates themselves, helping others in their times of need. Others become powerful voices for change working alongside MADD to eliminate drunk driving and help fight drugged driving.
