Committed to finding the "Missing Millions" !!!

By Dr Laila Rizvi | Executive Director

The Health Foundation (THF) through its Hepatitis Free Community models being implemented directly within high prevalent communities aim to address the key component of Pakistan National Hepatitis Strategic Framework (NHSF) for Pakistan 2017-2021 i.e. viral hepatitis transmission is halted and everyone living with viral hepatitis has access to safe, affordable and effective prevention, care and treatment services”.

6 Hepatitis C sentinel treatment sites and 28 referral points have been established till date in the mega city of Karachi to try to cater to the poorest of the poor patients in a larger geographical scope

The Hepatitis Free Community Model being implemented in high prevalent areas consisited of 3 components in the past i.e.

1- Community sensitization through targeted awareness session

2- Catch up Hepatitis B vaccination for populations above 5 years

3- Free treatment for the non affording, marginalized population

Now a fourth component has been added to link to the WHA vision of finding the "Missing Millions"

4- Screening

The challenge is to ensure that the people found positive for Hep B & C during these screening camps are linked to Appropriate and timely health care

Cascade of Care ( 1 July 2018- 30 Jan 2019)

Patients identified                                          = 1184

Patients linked to care                                   = 988

Patients completed treatment till date         =  782

Patients whose SVR due                               = 450

Patients who came for SVR                           = 412 (92 %)

Patients with SVR negative                           = 411 (99 %)

A project to support the treatment for non affording poor Hep C patients was pledged on GlobalGiving.

Till date 72 Hep C patients have been provided complete tretament through funds collected in our Global Giving project

We are looking at this platform to generate much more funds to really help support THF in this uphill, challenging task to fight the menace of Hepatitis C in Pakistan which bears a huge burden of the disease (Pakistan ranks at #2 for both prevalence and incidence in the world)

God bless each and everyone who has contributed to saving precious lives !!
