This project will prevent disability and in most cases save lives of the poorest, marginalized section of the society suffering from Hepatitis C in hard to reach areas of Pakistan . They have no access to basic health care and no finances to support treatment/cure from this debilitating and often fatal disease.

Challenge

- Over 20 million people suffer from Hepatitis in Pakistan - Every 12th person is Hepatitis B or C positive in Pakistan - Globally Pakistan ranks the 2nd highest in terms of Hepatitis prevalence - Every 30 seconds, one person dies from Hepatitis in the Asia Pacific region (3x higher than HIV/AIDS)

Solution

By providing the new oral Hep C medicine we aim to support the poorest of the poor with life saving treatment for Hepatitis C. The treatment being given free of cost is part of a comprehensive Hepatitis Free Community model being implemented by The Health Foundation in selected high prevalent areas of Pakistan. The combination of oral HEP C medicine is seen to be an amazing break through with curerates of over 95 %. Treatment last for normally only 3 months

Long-Term Impact

Lives saved. Decrease in incidence and prevalence of Hepatitis in focus high prevalence areas of Pakistan thus having an far reaching impact on overall economic status of families. Better health , better earning power!
