This project will prevent disability and in most cases save lives of the poorest, marginalized section of the society suffering from Hepatitis B and C in hard to reach areas of Pakistan . They have no access to basic health care and no finances to support treatment/cure from this debilitating and often fatal disease.
- More than 10 million patients require immediate medication for hepatitis in Pakistan. - Each year brings over 400,000 new hepatitis patients in the country. - Almost 100 people loose their lives daily due to hepatitis related issues. - The government healthcare infrastructure is inadequate and over-burdened to deal with this alarming issue.
The oral hepatitis medication will support the poorest of the poor with life saving treatment for this disease. The treatment being given free of cost is part of a comprehensive Hepatitis Free Community Model being implemented by The Health Foundation in selected high prevalent areas of Pakistan. The combination of this oral medication is seen to be an amazing break through with cure rates of over 95 %. Treatment duration is either 12 weeks or 24 weeks depending on the severity.
Millions of lives saved and livelihood assured. For the working class, productive working years are added, thus having an far reaching impact on overall economic status of families. Better health , better earning power!
