Adopt a Family program

By Staicy Wairimu | Social Media Manager

Introduction

Adopt a family program is an initiative to help the needy and the sick families. In the urban slums.  Few months ago, we experienced flooding in Kenya that displaced many families.  Most families are yet to recover from the loss. We have continuously supported these families.

Objective

The primary objective of the adopt a family program is to provide meaningful support to families experiencing financial hardships. By matching families in need with individuals, groups or business willing to donate essential items. Our goal is not only to meet immediate needs but also to uplift families by fostering a sense of community and compassion.

Number of Families adopted

Th number of families keep increasing. We register the families after doing due diligence to ensure all registered persons require the support.

Impact on Families

The outreach program has been giving hope to the vulnerable families. With dry food in supplied to them the families report that they can afford to eat 3 meals a day while before they were taking only one meal or none at all.

- Emotional Relief: With food assured, less emotional violence is reported in most. Occasionally with no food supply, we get a lot of cases of emotional violence between the partners.

-There is a lot of oneness in the community. When trouble hits most people tend to stay on their own. Noone wants to feel like their dignity is been stripped. Also, when the vulnerable families

Challenges and Solutions

The Initiative has been having various challenges.

  1. Due to economic challenges Worldwide, it has been very hard to fundraise for the Kitty.
  2. Many families keep registering for support.
  3. Some donors want to be matched to particular family that makes it hard to balance all the families to feel like they are treated the same

Solution: We created a contingency plan for latecomers and unanticipated changes by holding back a portion of donated goods for emergency cases. A dedicated team of volunteers was assigned to handle these last-minute requests, ensuring all families were accommodated.

- Challenge: Volunteer Shortage at Critical Times

Conclusion

The Adopt a Family program was a resounding success, providing critical support to families in need during a particularly challenging time.

While there were challenges along the way, we learned valuable lessons that will help us improve and expand the program in the future. The experience highlighted the importance of early planning, clear communication, and the need for flexible solutions to meet the diverse needs of our community.

As we look ahead, we are committed to continuing the Adopt a Family program, reaching even more families, and further strengthening the bonds between donors, volunteers, and the community. We believe that through compassion and collective action, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of families facing hardship.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has donated toward the Adopt a family initiative. With your donations we have been able to put a smile to a needy Family.

As an Organisation we are also looking at ways of having ways of suitability of the kitty through training women youth to learn hand skills that will help them support their families,

Teach a man to fish and he will eat for lifetime. Fish for a man and he will eat for a day.
